Happy August! What a wonderful start it’s been with watercolors (and my 30th wedding anniversary!). This past Friday was the opening for the ANEAW (Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors) show in the quaint Adirondack town of Old Forge, NY.As I stood in that beautiful space at The View Art Center filled with glorious watercolors, my heart was overcome with nerves, joy and this feeling of incredulous wonder that my painting, Red Right Returning was accepted into. How did I manage to hang with these watercolor icons? I’m talking NWS, TWSA, AWS and two of their Dolphin Founders; superstars at watercolors and their paintings that leave no doubt why their pieces and talent garner such recognition. (See pics below of just a few of them. You’ll be booking a trip to the Adirondacks!) It was strangely humbling. Impostor syndrome quickly tried to ruin this moment, undermining any confidence I walked in with. Luckily, my support team (my husband, kids, my son’s girlfriend, my best friend and her daughter) were there. Their joy for me and pride in my accomplishment brought me back so that I could fully embrace the moment. Although, I will have to go back and see the show again because I wasn’t able to allow my mind to take it all in. The show was just that good!
